Lakewood, NJ – 15-Year-Old Fatally Struck on Rt 70 near Vermont Ave
Lakewood, NJ (May 10, 2023) – A 15-year-old girl was fatally struck by a vehicle on a roadway in Ocean County, Lakewood, on Tuesday night, May 9th. The collision was reported at around 10:00 p.m.
Authorities say that the incident occurred at the intersection of Route 70 near Vermont Avenue. A police officer heard the crash when he was exiting a convenience store nearby.
The officer went to the scene where a girl was lying on the road near a vehicle with heavy front-end damage. She was transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital, where she tragically lost her life.
Authorities said preliminary reports show the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle was headed west on Route 70 when he hit the teenager, who was headed south in the crosswalk on Vermont Avenue.
At the time of the accident, her mom and younger sister were present. Authorities with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office and the county sheriff’s department are currently investigating the accident.
