Westhampton, NY – One Killed in Train vs Car Accident on S Bay Ave

Westhampton, NY (May 9, 2023) – One person lost their life in a traffic accident involving a train and a car in Westhampton on the afternoon of May 8. At approximately 6:25 p.m., the collision occurred at the South Bay Avenue crossing. 

Police say the 4:30 p.m. train from Hunterspoint Avenue to Montauk was delayed when it was traveling just west of Speonk due to striking a vehicle. Police and other emergency services were seen rendering aid at the scene. 

One person lost their life in the crash, sources said. Their identity remains unknown at this time. 

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident. No other details have been reported.
