New York Pedestrian Accidents

Manhattan, NY - Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle at West St & Albany StEvery year, countless pedestrians are left severely injured following crashes in the state of New Jersey. In many cases, reckless and negligent drivers cause severe harm to other people sharing the road. When pedestrians are harmed in accidents, and the drivers flee the scene of the accident, they may still have legal options available to help them move forward. You may be able to pursue a personal injury claim against the driver who hit you and then fled the scene, even if they were never caught or identified by police.

This is possible through what’s called an Uninsured Motorist Claim (UIM). New Jersey law requires all drivers to carry uninsured motorist insurance, which covers you in the event you’re struck by a driver who does not have any insurance or does not have enough insurance to cover your damages.

To file a UIM claim, you will need to notify your own insurance company as soon as possible after the hit-and-run accident. Your insurer will then conduct an investigation into the incident and determine whether or not they believe you have a valid claim. If they do, they will open up a case and begin working on your behalf to get you compensated for your injuries and other losses.

One important thing to keep in mind is that there is usually a time limit on filing UIM claims, so it’s important to act quickly after being involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in New Jersey. A knowledgeable pedestrian accident attorney in Manhattan can help you understand the deadlines that apply to your case and make sure your claim is filed properly and on time.
