Marlboro, NJ (December 14, 2023) – A car crash involving a fuel tanker and a school bus closed part of Route 18 in both directions on Monday evening, December 11. At the time of the wreck, at around 3:00 p.m., only the driver was aboard the bus. The vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of the highway, according to reports. The tanker truck’s driver was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to police. For several hours, the roadway was closed between Routes 79 and 520. 

In addition to police from Marlboro Township, first responders from the Marlboro Fire Department, the Marlboro First Aid Squad, Monmouth County HazMat Task Force, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation were sent to the scene to render aid. 

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim. Police continue to investigate.
