Who Pays for Medical Bills After a Car Accident in Colts Neck, NJ?
When another driver causes a crash in New Jersey, the people hurt often face immediate questions about how their medical bills will be covered. New Jersey is a no-fault state, which means your own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage usually pays for medical expenses first, regardless of who caused the collision. PIP is required under New Jersey law and applies to most injuries sustained in a crash.
Once PIP coverage is exhausted, additional options can become available depending on the type of policy you carry. People hurt in multi-vehicle crashes along heavily traveled corridors, such as the Garden State Pkwy near Colts Neck, sometimes face medical costs that exceed their PIP limits. In those cases, a claim against the at-fault driver’s liability insurance may be pursued. The severity of your injuries and the specific policy limits involved will shape what options are available to you.
A car accident attorney can review the details of your situation and help clarify which insurance policies apply. They may also be able to identify whether additional compensation is available for lost wages, ongoing treatment, or other costs tied to the crash. Legal guidance can make a meaningful difference when dealing with multiple insurers or disputed liability across several vehicles.
