Pembroke, NY (August 25, 2025) – A deadly tour bus crash on Interstate 90 in Pembroke, New York, claimed the lives of five passengers and left dozens of others injured.
The crash occurred early Friday morning, August 22, when a bus, traveling eastbound just before Exit 48A, lost control, entered the median, crossed to the southern shoulder, and overturned.
The bus, registered to M&Y Tour Inc. on Staten Island, was returning to New York City after a trip to Niagara Falls. The bus, carrying 54 people, including the driver and another employee, rolled at high speed, but did not collide with any other vehicles.
According to the New York State Police, five passengers were killed in the crash.
While five passengers died, dozens of others were injured, with many suffering cuts, bruises, abrasions, and more serious injuries such as head and extremity fractures.
Emergency personnel, including multiple medical helicopters, were on scene, transporting victims to hospitals like Erie County Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital. Fortunately, no one else sustained life-threatening injuries, and most were treated and released.
The bus driver, 55-year-old Bin Shao of Flushing, New York, was unharmed in the crash. Police said there were no signs of impairment, and the bus showed no mechanical failure. Despite this, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities believe the driver may have become distracted and overcorrected, causing the bus to lose control.
The crash also led to road closures, with all eastbound lanes remaining closed for several hours, causing significant delays. Westbound lanes were reopened later in the evening. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident in coordination with New York State Police and the Department of Transportation.
Our deepest condolences go out to all those families grieving the loss of their loved ones, and the many victims facing long recoveries from serious injuries.
