Queens, NY – Two Injured in Apartment Fire on 71st Ave

Queens, NY (November 25, 2022) –  Two individuals suffered serious injuries after they were caught in an apartment fire that happened in Queens. The fire was reported on the morning of November 24. At around 8:30 a.m, emergency crews were sent to the scene.

Callers notified dispatchers of the location of the fire–on the fifth or sixth floor of an apartment building on 71st Avenue. Numerous fire crews were observed working at the scene of the fire a short time after the incident was reported.

Firefighters declared an “all hands” alert and confirmed there was at least one person inside the building in need of rescue. The firefighters searched the apartment, which was full of heavy clutter, according to reports.

Water was placed on the flames while additional crews searched the floor above the fire. A victim was found and pulled from the building and administered CPR. A second ambulance was requested at the scene by paramedics when a second injured victim was found in the burning building.

Authorities in Queens continue investigating the details of the incident.

We hope for the full recovery of those with injuries.

 New York House Fires

Queens, NY - Two Injured in Apartment Fire on 71st AveResidential fires can happen for a multitude of reasons. Some of the most common causes of New Jersey residential fires include:

  • Defective small or large appliances
  • Out-of-date wiring
  • Incorrectly installed or broken gas lines
  • Blocked chimney flues
  • A faulty furnace or boiler

It is important to establish the cause of a fire. Additionally, it is vital to be able to prove whether the fire happened due to the negligence of a third party, or if the fire was a direct result of an occupant not being able to exit the residence safely.

If it is proven that the fire or a resident’s inability to react safely was, partially or wholly, caused by the actions or nonactions of a third party, the victim will most likely be able to bring a valid personal injury claim against a negligent third party.

Some factors that a New York house fire lawyer will investigate are whether or not :

  • The landlord or manager of the premises abided by the current building and fire codes
  • Appropriate fire safety tools and devices were available and working
  • Fireplaces and vents were properly maintained
  • Fire escapes and exits were available and working
  • Fire doors were being used
  • Smoke alarms were correctly installed, tested, and working
  • Firewalls were properly built and placed
