Seneca, NY (February 9, 2026) – A Syracuse man lost his life in a head-on car crash on Saturday, February 7, in the town of Seneca, located in Ontario County. The accident happened around 1:11 p.m. along State Route 14A near Hastings Road.
The crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions. New York State Police reported that a 2025 Kia K4 traveled southbound on Route 14A when it crossed over the center line. The vehicle entered the northbound lane as it approached the Hastings Road area.
At the same time, a 2020 Dodge Ram traveled northbound on the roadway. The Dodge struck the Kia head-on after the Kia crossed into its lane. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles and left multiple people injured at the scene.
Emergency units arrived shortly after the collision. Responders located three people involved in the crash. Edwin C. Montanez, age 47, from Syracuse, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities identified him later that day.
Two additional people involved in the accident suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews provided medical care at the scene before transporting the injured victims to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Officials have not released details about their current conditions.
Investigators continue to review how and why the Kia crossed into the oncoming lane. The investigation remains active.
