Hope Township, NJ (June 19, 2026) – A vehicle stopped in the roadway contributed to a multi-vehicle wreck Thursday night, June 18, on Interstate 80 in Warren County, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded around 9:39 p.m. to the eastbound lanes near milepost 10.9 in Hope Township. A preliminary investigation found that a vehicle stopped in the roadway contributed to the crash that involved multiple vehicles, according to police.
Officials reported injuries from the collision, but said they were not considered life-threatening. The number of vehicles and people hurt was not immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
We hope everyone involved has a smooth and full recovery.

If a vehicle becomes disabled on I-80, drivers should try to move it fully onto the shoulder and away from travel lanes whenever possible. This stretch of I-80 through Warren County sees heavy through-traffic that connects to Route 46 and Route 57, which makes stopped vehicles especially dangerous in areas with limited visibility or higher speeds.
People involved in this type of crash commonly experience whiplash, soft tissue injuries, or other impact-related harm that may not be obvious right away. Even when injuries are described as non-life-threatening, they can still require ongoing medical care and time away from work.
Fault in a multi-vehicle crash can be disputed when more than one driver may have contributed to what happened. The driver of the stopped vehicle, the driver who struck it, and even road conditions at the time could all play a part in how responsibility gets divided among those involved.
New Jersey follows a modified comparative negligence rule, which means a driver found more than 50% at fault cannot recover damages, while those found 50% or less at fault may still recover an amount reduced by their share of responsibility.
Strong evidence is key to supporting a claim after a crash. This can include police reports, photos of the scene, witness statements, and any available traffic camera footage. A car accident lawyer can help collect and organize this evidence while it's still available.
