Most Common Injuries After a Car Accident in New JerseyTwo-Vehicle Crash Reports Injuries on I-78 E at Exit 24

Car accidents in New Jersey cause a wide range of injuries, and some of the most common include whiplash, broken bones, head trauma, and back injuries. Many of these injuries are not immediately obvious at the scene — symptoms can appear hours or even days after a crash, which is why getting a medical evaluation quickly matters.

Whiplash is among the most frequently reported injuries after a two-vehicle collision. It occurs when the neck snaps forward and backward rapidly during impact. Though it may seem minor at first, whiplash can cause persistent neck pain, headaches, and limited mobility that lasts for weeks. Back injuries, including herniated discs, are also common and can interfere significantly with daily activity and work.

Head injuries deserve particular attention after any crash. Even without a direct blow to the head, the force of a collision can cause a concussion or other traumatic brain injury. Symptoms like dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems may not surface right away. Seeking medical attention promptly after an accident helps identify these issues early and creates documentation that can be important during an insurance claim or legal process.

New Jersey follows a no-fault insurance system, which means injured drivers and passengers first turn to their own Personal Injury Protection coverage for medical expenses and lost wages. However, when injuries meet a certain threshold of severity, a person may have the option to step outside the no-fault system and pursue a claim against the at-fault driver. A car accident attorney can review the details of the crash and explain whether that option may apply.
