New Jersey Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrians are often more severely injured than those who suffer injuries in other types of traffic accidents. Every year, tens of thousands of pedestrians suffer injuries in traffic collisions throughout the United States. In New Jersey, most pedestrian accidents happen in urban areas, at intersections, and at night.
When you’re traveling as a pedestrian, it’s important to always keep an eye out for vehicles, make eye contact with drivers when crossing the road, wear light clothing, and remain alert, aware, and sober at all times. The same goes for drivers on the roadway, who constantly need to be on the lookout for those on foot and on bicycles.
Unfortunately, the majority of the pedestrian accidents reported in the United States and throughout the state of New Jersey are preventable and caused by driver negligence. Statistics gathered concerning pedestrian crashes in the US show that over 5,000 people lose their lives per year in American pedestrian crashes. When we consider that most of these people are killed by driver negligence, it is easy to admit that drivers need to be more careful and mindful while operating their vehicles.
