Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Pedestrian Injured in NJ Transit Bus Collision at Clinton Ave & State St

Accidents involving pedestrians and public transit vehicles, such as buses, can lead to serious consequences even when injuries are not life-threatening.

Buses are significantly larger and heavier than passenger vehicles, which means that pedestrians struck in these collisions often sustain major injuries.

In New Jersey’s urban centers, where public transportation is a daily necessity, these accidents highlight the ongoing need for both driver awareness and pedestrian safety.

In cases like this one, injured victims may be entitled to pursue compensation for the damages they suffer. Bus accidents are often more complex than standard car accidents because they may involve a public transportation agency, adding additional rules and timelines to the claims process.

Working with an experienced attorney ensures that victims understand their rights and do not miss critical deadlines.

Here are some of the most common types of compensation available to victims of pedestrian and bus accidents:

  • Medical treatment costs – Emergency medical care, hospital stays, follow-up visits, prescriptions, and rehabilitation can place a heavy financial burden on victims. Compensation helps cover these expenses so the injured person can focus on recovery. In serious cases, this may also include future medical needs.
  • Lost income – Many victims are unable to return to work immediately after an accident. Compensation for lost wages ensures that injured pedestrians can maintain financial stability during their recovery period. In situations where long-term injuries reduce future earning potential, victims may also recover compensation for diminished earning capacity.
  • Pain and suffering – Physical injuries often bring more than just financial loss. Emotional trauma, stress, and the long-term impact of an accident affect a person’s overall quality of life. Damages for pain and suffering recognize this unseen burden and provide additional relief.
  • Rehabilitation services – Victims may require physical therapy, counseling, or specialized care to regain independence after an accident. Compensation for these services ensures continued access to the resources needed for recovery, even after leaving the hospital.
  • Out-of-pocket expenses – Everyday costs tied to the accident, such as transportation to medical appointments, mobility aids, or home modifications, can add up quickly. Compensation for these expenses reduces additional stress on victims and their families.

Every pedestrian accident case is unique, but what they all share is the need for careful investigation and strong legal support. A knowledgeable pedestrian accident lawyer can help victims navigate the complexities of dealing with NJ Transit, insurers, and other responsible parties.
