Car Accidents in New Jersey
Each year, countless families across New Jersey face the aftermath of serious car accidents. The state reports thousands of motor vehicle collisions annually, many of which result in life-altering injuries or even fatalities. Even with safety measures in place, the sheer volume of traffic on busy routes like the Garden State Parkway means that tragic crashes can happen in an instant. Victims and their loved ones often find themselves dealing with medical bills, insurance claims, and emotional trauma that can last for years.
Understanding why crashes happen is vital. Below are some common causes of car accidents and how they impact victims:
- Distracted Driving: Drivers who text, eat, or use in-car technologies while behind the wheel are far more likely to cause accidents. Just a momentary lapse in focus can result in catastrophic collisions. Victims of distracted driving accidents often endure injuries that require long-term rehabilitation and costly medical care.
- Speeding: Excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react to sudden changes on the road. High-speed impacts, like the recent Garden State Parkway crash, tend to result in more severe injuries and fatalities. Families affected by speeding accidents may be burdened with sudden loss and significant financial challenges.
- Driving Under the Influence: Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs continues to be one of the leading causes of traffic deaths. Impaired drivers have diminished judgment and slower reaction times, which puts everyone around them at risk. Survivors often face lifelong injuries or disabilities due to these reckless acts.
- Failure to Yield: Failing to yield the right-of-way at intersections or when merging can lead to dangerous T-bone or side-impact collisions. These crashes frequently result in traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, and other serious conditions. Recovering from such incidents can be an uphill battle both physically and financially.
