Yaphank, NY – Mom & Baby Killed in Crash on Rt 101 near Long Island Expwy

Yaphank, NY (May 4, 2023) – A mom and her baby were killed after their vehicle crashed into a school van on Thursday morning, May 4. The accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. at an intersection in Yaphank.

Reports from authorities show the crash occurred at the intersection of Route 101 and the Long Island Expressway. A woman in her 30s was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

When police arrived at the crash scene, a pedestrian pulled the baby out of the vehicle. Police performed CPR before paramedics transported the child to the hospital. Sadly, the baby suffered critical injuries and passed away a short time later. 

The driver of the school van, identified as a 73-year-old, was treated for broken bones and other non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident.
