Manhattan, NY - Four Hurt in Three-Alarm Building Fire on E 62nd St near 1st Ave

Manhattan, NY (January 30, 2023) - A fire was reported to fire crews in Manhattan’s upper east side on the afternoon of January 30. Shortly after 3:00 p.m., firefighters received the report concerning a fire coming from an open shaft on the roof of a building. 

Fire crews said the fire extended from the third floor to the roof of a building located in the 400 block of 62nd Street near 1st Avenue. Additional units were requested at the scene. 

The flames took over an hour to extinguish, according to information from local reports. One civilian sustained serious injuries in the blaze. They were treated and transported to a local hospital for further medical care. 

Three firefighters were also injured in the fire. Authorities in Manhattan are investigating the details of the incident.
