How Long Do You Have to File a Personal Injury Claim in Freehold Township, NJ?

Multiple Injuries Reported in Crash on Elton Adelphia Rd

New Jersey generally gives people two years from the accrual of a personal injury claim to file a lawsuit for an injury caused by another person's wrongful act, neglect, or default. This deadline can be important even when medical treatment continues after a crash.

The filing period matters because injuries may require ongoing appointments, rehabilitation, or additional evaluation before their full effects become clear.

Families dealing with injuries from a crash may need to keep medical records, bills, insurance correspondence, and other documents organized while treatment continues. These records can help establish the nature of the injuries and the losses associated with them.

New Jersey also has a specific statute addressing an action brought by a parent or another person for an injury to a minor child. That distinction can make the timing and structure of claims that involves injured children different from the claim belonging to the child.

Because the applicable deadlines can depend on the type of claim and the circumstances involved, a car accident lawyer can help victims stay up to date with the filing process.

At Metro Law, we can review the circumstances of your case and explain which deadlines may apply to a potential personal injury claim. We can also discuss what records may be useful for you and what steps to take.
