Brentwood, NY – Rodolfo and Soraida Polanco Killed, Several Injured in DWAI Crash on Second AveNY/NJ Legal News
Brentwood, NY (October 05, 2021) – A man who sustained serious injuries in a car accident that killed his wife, caused by a driver under the influence of drugs, died on Tuesday, October 5th.
On Saturday at about 9:40 p.m., 59-year-old Rodolfo Polanco, a resident of Brentwood, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry on Second Avenue when a 2014 Acura TL crashed into his car. The force of the impact thrust the Toyota sideways into the westbound lane where it was hit in the passenger side by an oncoming 2021 Jeep Wrangler.
Polanco was transported in serious condition to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. His wife, 57-year-old Soraida Polanco, also from Brentwood, was also taken to South Shore where she was pronounced dead.
Another passenger in the Toyota was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in non-critical condition.
Two passengers in the Jeep, 69 and 71-years old were both taken to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening and serious injuries, respectively.
The Jeep’s driver, a 39-year-old woman, and her two sons, 10 and 14-years-old, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in non-critical condition.
The impaired driver, 27-year-old Christian Lopez, a local, was also taken to South Shore University Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was subsequently arrested and charged with DWAI, which is a misdemeanor.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office will evaluate the case and decide if more serious charges will be filed.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims, Mr. and Mrs. Rodolfo and Soraida Polanco, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Drivers Under the Influence in Brentwood
An experienced New York impaired driving accident attorney has seen first-hand how dangerous driving under the influence of drugs can be. Although driving while intoxicated is against the law in New York and is associated with strict penalties, like incarceration and fines, drivers who get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol are not the only ones impacted by this criminal behavior.
Sadly, drivers who are under the influence endanger the lives of others when they choose to drive. Accidents involving drugged drivers usually involve severe or catastrophic injuries and, in some instances, are deadly. Even though it may be easier to show that a drugged or drunk driver was negligent and therefore liable for causing your accident and resulting injuries, these kinds of cases often present various challenges for those who were injured.
Due to this, people who have sustained injuries after their involvement in a DWAI might have grounds to file a suit for any losses incurred.
Our New York DWAI car accident lawyers understand the difficulties that the victims of drunk drivers must endure. We are dedicated to using our resources to get our clients the maximum amount of financial and their lives back on track.
