How Long Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in New Jersey
In New Jersey, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Missing this deadline can mean losing the right to seek compensation entirely, so acting promptly is important.
Wrongful death claims in New Jersey can be filed by the executor or administrator of the deceased person’s estate. Compensation may cover funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the loss of companionship and guidance the deceased provided to their family. In crashes involving motorcyclists, investigations often examine factors like vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver behavior. All these factors can become key elements in a legal claim.
A wrongful death attorney can help families review the available evidence, communicate with insurance companies, and explain what legal options may apply. Wrongful death cases involve multiple layers of documentation, including police reports, medical records, and witness accounts. Legal guidance can help families understand what compensation may be available and how the process works under New Jersey law.
