Reports show that six people were injured in the crash that police said happened when a vehicle heading southbound on 1&9 attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Sip Avenue at about 6:45 p.m.

The 21-year-old driver, a resident of Jersey City, told officers that as she was turning east onto Sip Avenue when her 2011 Honda Civic was hit on the passenger side. 64-year-old Iffat Ara, a backseat passenger,  was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. at the Jersey City Medical Center.

The crash report did not state how fast each vehicle was going, or if either ran the red light. The three-way intersection is equipped with a  functioning traffic signal and a dedicated left-hand turn lane.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mrs. Iffat Ara, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Side-Impact Collisions in Jersey City

Jersey City, NJ - Iffat Ara Dies, Six More Injured in Two-Car Accident on RT 1 &9 at Slip Ave

Establishing the negligence or liability of the other driver after a side-impact accident can be contentious because it usually involves a he said/she said situation, with each driver blaming the other for disregarding the applicable traffic control device.

This is particularly true in un-witnessed collisions; those where the only testimony concerning how the crash happened will come from the vehicle operators themselves. Therefore, questioning the defendant’s credibility is vital to your case.

An experienced New Jersey side-impact collision attorney will need to conduct a detailed inquiry of the defendant during their deposition in order to dispute any false claims about which driver failed to exercise due care. These questions will include factors like time, distance, speed, traffic control devices, and the intersection itself.

The connection of all of these elements to one another at different points in time involves a complicated analysis that could demand the retention of expert witnesses, such as accident reconstruction specialists or engineering specialists. These experts might also be retained to review forensic evidence collected at the scene.

Our side-impact collision attorneys make sure they always work with experts who are at the forefront of their individual fields. The testimonies of these specialists are just one of the multiple reasons our firm has maintained a successful track record in winning car accident cases.
