Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents remain a serious safety concern in densely populated areas in New Jersey. Busy roadways, limited visibility at night, and high traffic volume increase the risk of severe injuries when a vehicle strikes someone on foot. In hit-and-run cases, the danger grows even greater because victims often do not receive immediate help.
Pedestrians have little protection during a collision. Even at lower speeds, a vehicle can cause fatal injuries. According to national safety data, pedestrian fatalities often occur during evening hours, especially at intersections and along major roads.
In many pedestrian accidents, victims suffer catastrophic injuries such as head trauma, internal organ damage, and severe fractures. These injuries frequently lead to long-term medical needs or loss of life. When a driver leaves the scene, families face added pain and uncertainty.
Legal options may exist under wrongful death laws when a pedestrian loses their life due to another party’s actions. A wrongful death lawyer can help families understand their rights and evaluate whether a claim is available. These claims may help families pursue compensation related to medical expenses, funeral costs, and the emotional loss they endure.
Hit-and-run investigations often rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and forensic evidence. Acting quickly can make a major difference. Families should also understand that insurance coverage, including uninsured motorist policies, may apply even if police do not locate the driver right away.
