Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents in New Jersey can be especially concerning due to the area’s high traffic volume and urban environment. Whether it’s crossing busy intersections, walking along sidewalks, or navigating parking lots, pedestrians are at risk whenever they share the road with vehicles.
Several factors contribute to pedestrian accidents, including:
- Distracted drivers: Drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or otherwise distracted are more likely to miss seeing pedestrians in their path. Distracted driving is a leading cause of pedestrian accidents, especially in busy city environments.
- Impaired driving: Alcohol and drugs can impair a driver’s judgment and reaction times. When a driver is under the influence, the risk of hitting a pedestrian increases dramatically, especially in crowded areas like Jersey City.
- Poor road conditions: Inadequate street lighting, potholes, and poorly marked crosswalks can make it difficult for pedestrians to navigate safely. Roadway issues can lead to accidents, especially at night or during bad weather.
- Failure to yield: Drivers who fail to yield the right-of-way at crosswalks or who run red lights put pedestrians in danger. Even in situations where pedestrians have the right of way, careless or reckless drivers can cause accidents
Pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries due to the lack of protection for individuals involved. While pedestrians are more vulnerable to injury, their recovery is often challenging due to physical, emotional, and financial stress.
Victims need to seek legal counsel to navigate the aftermath and receive necessary compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
