Mantua Twp, NJ – Driver Kills 8-Year-Old Son in Crash on Rt 55
Mantua Twp, NJ (June 6, 2023) – Police have charged a father with vehicular homicide after a fatal accident that took the life of his 8-year-old son on Saturday afternoon, June 3. Franklin Diaz Sr., 31, of Camden, was headed north on a route in Mantua Township just before 2:00 p.m. when he hit another vehicle, New Jersey State Police said.
Diaz was reportedly passing vehicles on the left shoulder as well as in the center grass median when the crash occurred. The car struck an overpass and caught fire after striking the other vehicle, reports read.
An 8-year-old child inside his vehicle at the time, later identified by police as his own son, lost his life due to injuries he sustained in the accident. An adult passenger and another juvenile present in the car at the time were treated for injuries at the scene and released.
Diaz is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and causing death while driving with a suspended license.
