One Injured in Crash on I-78 in Bethlehem Twp, NJ

Bethlehem Twp, NJ (August 3, 2026) – One person was hurt on Sunday, August 2, after a tractor-trailer lost a fuel tank on I-78 westbound in Hunterdon County.

The wreck happened between mile markers 9.6 and 9.3, where the truck's saddle tank came loose from the rig. A second tank on the same vehicle began leaking fuel onto the highway shortly after.

A passenger vehicle was also involved in the collision. The Hunterdon Fire and emergency units arrived quickly, and one person was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Because of the fuel leak, a hazmat team was requested to manage a level two cleanup along the westbound lanes. Further details about the accident were not immediately available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
