New York Pedestrian Accidents
When pedestrians are involved in traffic accidents, they almost always sustain serious injuries or lose their lives. This is due to the difference in weight, size, and speed of a vehicle compared to a person. A person who is struck by a vehicle can typically be injured by three distinct areas of the vehicle. These are the bumper, the hood, or the windshield. The third point of impact is usually the road itself.
These impacts can lead to serious injuries, such as:
- Amputation
- Head trauma/Traumatic brain injuries
- Broken or fractured bones
- Spinal cord damage
- Emotional anguish
- Death
The most commonly seen injuries observed in pedestrian crashes are musculoskeletal injuries to the lower parts of the body. If a child is injured in a pedestrian crash, they usually sustain head injuries due to their lower height. Other typical injuries that pedestrians often sustain are usually to their upper torso and head. Basically, a pedestrian often sustains injuries to each part of their body when involved in a crash with a vehicle due to being totally unprotected.
If you are injured as a New York pedestrian, you are entitled to bring legal action against the responsible party.
