Construction Site Injuries in New Jersey
New Jersey law says that the general contractor of a construction project is duty-bound to maintain working conditions that are safe. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for contractors to abandon the safety of their employees in order to pocket more money, leaving construction workers to deal with treacherous working conditions.
The construction industry has the highest number of workers who are seriously and fatally injured in the United States. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, nearly 1,000 construction site deaths took place in 2016. Out of over 5,100 total workplace fatalities, one-fifth were construction workers, accounting for about 21% of the deaths. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said that there were just under three million workplace illnesses and injuries in 2016, a reduction of 48,500 victims from the previous year.
