Burn Injuries in New Jersey
Almost all legal claims are governed by a statute of limitations, which sets a deadline for filing. If you fail to file your claim before the statute of limitations lapses, you will be barred from collecting any compensation.
The best way to establish when the statute of limitations for your unique claim runs out is to speak with a reputable New Jersey burn injury lawyer.
In New Jersey, most personal injury claims have to be filed within two years from the day of the cause of action, meaning two years from the day you were injured. If you lost a family member to a burn injury caused by negligence and you wish to file a wrongful death suit, the statute is two years from the day of death.
If, however, you were unaware at the time that your injury or related death may have been the result of negligence, the discovery rule could allow for the statute to be extended.
Under this exception, the statute does not toll until the day you learn or reasonably should have learned that you had grounds to bring a lawsuit.
Our attorneys work diligently to ensure families have their legal rights protected so they can move forward after a serious burn injury. Contact the New Jersey burn injury lawyers at Metro Law by calling (800) 469-6476 to see how we can help you.
