Fort Salonga, NY – Victor Irizarry Dies of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning at Construction Site on Fort Salonga Rd

Fore Salonga, NY (November 11, 2021) – Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives were called to investigate the death of a construction worker from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning at a residential job site on Tuesday, November 9th in Fort Salonga.

30-year-old Victor Irizarry, a resident of Flanders and an employee of Suffolk Excavating, had been working for about 15 minutes removing silt from the bottom of a drainage pipe 10 feet underground at a house on Fort Salonga Road when he stopped replying to co-workers at about 2:35 p.m.

One of the workers tried to go down the pipe to check on Irizarry but felt a burning in his throat and nose, forcing him to abandon the idea.

The Kings Park Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that carbon monoxide levels were precariously high. Firefighters were able to extricate Irizarry from the pipe.

He was transported by ambulance to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown where he was pronounced dead.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was informed and is investigating.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Victor Irizarry, at this time.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in New York

Carbon monoxide is called the silent killer because its fumes are odorless, tasteless, and colorless. Due to this, it can be hard to identify a case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you have been a victim of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is important to find out what caused it. A New York personal injury lawyer will be able to lead a thorough investigation of the events surrounding the accident.

If the victim was injured or killed at their home or place of employment, a defective product leaking gas coupled with poor ventilation often goes unnoticed until it is too late. If this is the case, you may have grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death suit.

When a product has the ability to cause harm to a customer, it is vital that manufacturers warn the public. If corporations are negligent in providing a warning and intentionally sell products that can seriously injure or kill consumers, they could be held liable.
