Hackensack, NJ – Firefighter, Resident Injured in Two-Alarm Blaze on Fair St

Hackensack, NJ (April 04, 2022) – A two-alarm fire in Hackensack left a firefighter and the home’s resident with injuries on Sunday, April 3rd.

The Hackensack Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on the 90th block of Fair Street at about 8:10 a.m.

Upon their arrival, fire crews were met with heavy fire and smoke conditions on the second floor of the home with the fire reaching well into the attic. Crews put multiple hand lines into service to contain the flames and protect neighboring homes.

Fire companies from Teaneck and Englewood assisted in responding to the fire, as well as units from Bogota, Hackensack police, Hackensack UMC Basic Life Support, and the city’s building department.

The fire at the Fair Street home was brought under control in about an hour.

The firefighter and resident who were injured were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center in non-critical condition. Their identities were not disclosed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hackensack Fire Prevention Bureau.

Neither city officials nor the fire department immediately provided additional details about the incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

House Fires in New Jersey

Hackensack, NJ - Firefighter, Resident Injured in Two-Alarm Blaze on Fair St

A serious burn is an emotionally and physically draining experience. Nearly everyone has burned themselves at least once in the course of ironing, cooking, or participating in some other household activity. Burns caused by house fires, however, often cover large sections of the body, are quite painful, and leave the victim vulnerable to skin loss and serious infections, paving the way for other serious medical conditions.

Once they are healed, burns can leave deformative scars that will need surgical intervention and could make even rudimentary actions painful and difficult.

A severe burn can take years to heal. In some cases, burn victims never wholly recover. They normally require hospitalization in special wards so they can endure multiple surgeries and various other treatments in an effort to make their skin appear as normal and be as functional as possible. It is not uncommon for victims to also need psychiatric treatment to address the trauma caused by the event and life with disfiguring scars.

Appropriate medical treatment for burn injuries is costly. If your burn injuries were the result of someone else’s malicious, careless, or reckless behavior, the law entitles you to seek compensation for your physical, emotional, and financial damages.
