New Jersey Truck Accidents
Being seriously injured in any type of crash can be a seriously difficult experience. Truck accident injuries are often more severe than other types of injuries due to the fact that large commercial trucks exert a lot more force than other vehicles. You may find yourself stuck in the hospital with severe injuries while you undergo physical therapy and surgery, all of which can be painful and overwhelming. Depending on the severity of your wounds, you may be stuck in the hospital for longer than is mentally bearable, causing you to miss time at work and time spent with family and friends. This, in itself, can be extremely emotionally and physically daunting.
Commercial trucks often pose a larger threat to those in small passenger vehicles when they become involved in collisions due to their sheer size and weight. Those inside passenger vehicles, who become involved in accidents with commercial trucks, almost always sustain severe or fatal injuries.
Sadly, the majority of truck accidents are caused by the actions of negligent truck drivers. Truck drivers are often running low on energy, as they are trying to get from point A to point B in a certain amount of time. They are more prone to speeding due to this fact. Driving while over-tired, and at unsafe speeds, usually is a recipe for disaster while on the road. If you or a loved one have been hurt in a truck crash caused by a negligent truck driver, you may be eligible to collect financial compensation in many different forms.
Many types of compensation awarded to injured truck victims will reach above basic medical care, however, medical bills often do make up a large portion of any settlement awarded to an injured crash victim. Basically, depending on the nature and severity of your accident and the injuries that followed, as well as how they have impacted your life, you may be eligible to receive compensation for more than just the medical care required for you to recover.
Commercial truck wrecks can cause more problems in a person’s life than just serious financial burdens; they may also negatively impact your relationships with your loved ones, create serious mental and emotional strain in your life, and more. These factors are usually taken into consideration when the crash was especially severe and the victimized persons are unable to get their lives back to normal without some professional assistance.
In addition to medical care, other forms of compensation might be:
- Lost wages
- Damage to property
- Reduced earning capacity
- Caregiver expenses
- Reduced enjoyment of life/quality of life
- Loss of camaraderie
- Physical trauma
- Emotional despair
