Lake Kemah, NY – Thomas P. Fisher and Glen M. Devries Identified as Victims of Fatal Plane Crash Near Lake KemahNY/NJ Legal News
Lake Kemah, NY (November 12, 2021) – Authorities have identified the two men killed in a small plane crash in Sussex County after taking off from an airport in Caldwell on Thursday, November 12th.
54-year-old Thomas P. Fisher, a resident of Hopatcong, NJ, and 49-year-old Glen M. Devries, a resident of Manhattan, NY were identified as the two men on board when a single-engine Cessna 172 crashed in Hampton Township.
Their plane went down in a forested area close to Lake Kemah.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Fisher and Devries took off from Essex County Airport in Caldwell and were on their way to Sussex Airport when the FAA warned public safety agencies to keep an eye out for the missing aircraft at about 3:00 p.m.
Emergency crews found the wreckage around 4:00 p.m.
Public records show Fisher earned certifications as a ground and flight instructor and was certified to fly both commercial and private aircraft.
DeVries had his student pilot license and a single-engine plane registered in his name. It was not immediately clear, however, if that was the same aircraft that crashed.
The National Transportation Safety Board, which is now leading the investigation, declined requests for additional information.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims, Mr. Thomas P. Fisher, and Mr. Glen M. Devries, at this time.
Wrongful Deaths in New York
Wrongful death is a phrase defining an accident during which one person dies due to someone else’s carelessness or negligence, or due to someone else inflicting deliberate harm.
If an injured person who ultimately dies due to another’s negligence would have been entitled to file a personal injury claim had they survived, then a wrongful death suit is most likely applicable to the situation.
Claims of wrongful death are brought against parties whose negligence or malfeasance caused a car accident, plane crash, defective part or product, construction site accidents, workplace accidents, or medical malpractice. These claims provide the deceased’s family or their estate with a tool for bringing a suit against the individual deemed liable for the death.
