Queens, NY (October 20, 2021) – A car accident claimed the life of a 22-year-old mother on Sunday, October 17. The incident was reported to authorities in the area at around 11:00 p.m. in Queens.

Reports indicate that the wreck took place on Park Lane South near Mayfair Road in Kew Gardens. Police stated that a family of three traveling in their 1997 Toyota Corolla collided with another vehicle in the area.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Daniel Aguirre, the woman’s husband. He was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the collision, according to information from Queens police.

Preliminary reports show that Aguirre suddenly and for unknown reasons crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head-on into another vehicle. That vehicle was identified as a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling east on the same street.

Both the mother and the father along with the 3-year-old child were pinned inside the vehicle when authorities and paramedics arrived at the scene. All three required extrication from the car.

Paramedics then discovered that the mother, Fernanda, had sustained severe trauma to her head and body. She was immediately transported to Jamaica University Hospital Medical Center where she later lost her life.

The 3-year-old was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center along with their father. They were both said to have sustained no injuries in the wreck.

The unidentified driver of the Camry was also transported to Jamaica University where they were treated for minor injuries. Daniel Aguirre was arrested and charged with Aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, and vehicular manslaughter.

Authorities in Queens continue to investigate.

We would like to offer our sincere sympathies to the family of Fernanda Aguirre. We hope for the fast recovery of the injured victim.
