Ramapo, NY – 85-Year-Old Man Killed in Crash on Rt 59 near Airmont Rd
Ramapo, NY (February 1, 2023) – An elderly man from Montebello lost his life after his vehicle was struck by an oncoming driver on Route 59 Saturday, January 28. Police in Ramapo said it happened at around 10:00 a.m.
Reports from local sources show the incident took place near the intersection of Airmont Road on Route 59. The man, age 85, was traveling in his 2021 Hyundai Sonata by a woman from Mahwah, New Jersey. She was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue east on Route 59 when she entered the intersection with Airmont Road and struck the Hyundai.
Both the Hyundai and the Nissan struck a tow truck that was also traveling in the westbound lane of traffic. All involved drivers were transported to area hospitals with varying injuries, police reported.
Sadly, the Hyundai’s driver succumbed to his injuries. The Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the details of the accident.
