Pedestrian Fatalities in New Jersey

Pedestrian accidents often bring devastating consequences, especially when they result in the loss of life. Families who lose loved ones in these tragic incidents not only face deep emotional grief but also sudden financial burdens.

In New Jersey, surviving family members may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide access to compensation that eases some of the financial challenges while honoring the value of the life lost. Possible compensation includes:

  • Funeral and burial expenses – The unexpected cost of laying a loved one to rest can be overwhelming. A wrongful death claim may cover these expenses so families can focus on grieving instead of financial strain.
  • Medical bills before death – If the victim received medical treatment before passing, the resulting bills can be included in the claim. This ensures families are not forced to pay for costly emergency care that could not prevent the tragic outcome.
  • Loss of financial support – When a victim was a primary wage earner, their passing leaves families without income or stability. Compensation can help replace wages and provide for the family’s future needs.
  • Loss of companionship and guidance – Families suffer deeply when they lose the love, advice, and presence of a spouse, parent, or child. Courts may recognize this non-economic loss when awarding damages.
  • Pain and suffering – In some cases, surviving family members may be compensated for the emotional anguish caused by the sudden loss. This acknowledges the lasting trauma such an event can leave behind.

While financial recovery cannot bring back a loved one, it can help families rebuild their lives and secure stability during an incredibly painful time. A wrongful death attorney can guide families through the process, ensure deadlines are met, and fight for maximum compensation on their behalf.
