Trenton, NJ (July 7, 2025) – A tragic overnight crash claimed the life of a woman after a violent collision left two vehicles mangled and one engulfed in flames on a church lawn. In the early morning hours of July 7, around 12:29 a.m., Trenton police officers were called to the scene outside Iglesia De Dios Pentecostal, where they discovered a silver Toyota Tacoma ablaze and a severely damaged black BMW nearby.
Investigators determined that the crash unfolded when the Tacoma, driven by a 51-year-old man from Hamilton, attempted a left turn onto Lalor Street from the westbound lane of Broad Street. During the turn, the Tacoma collided with the BMW, which led to the Tacoma overturning and catching fire. The impact ejected a woman from one of the vehicles, leaving her with critical injuries. She was rushed to Capitol Medical Center but, tragically, did not survive.
The Tacoma’s 51-year-old operator and the BMW’s 22-year-old driver from Trenton sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for further treatment. The intersection near Broad Street and Lalor Street was closed for several hours as police pieced together the circumstances leading up to the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the events that resulted in this devastating loss of life.
Our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones and the other injured victims during this difficult time.
Car Accidents in New Jersey
Deadly and serious collisions occur far too often across New Jersey’s roadways. Statistics from the state show that over 250,000 car accidents happen each year, contributing to thousands of injuries and hundreds of tragic fatalities. With busy intersections and high traffic volumes, staying alert and driving defensively on New Jersey roads can make all the difference in preventing accidents like this one.
When it comes to understanding what victims may face after a serious collision, it helps to know the most common factors that contribute to these devastating events:
- Impaired Driving: Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol remains one of the leading causes of severe accidents. Even small amounts of alcohol or certain medications can slow reaction times and impair judgment, increasing the risk of deadly crashes.
- Speeding: Exceeding speed limits reduces the time drivers have to react to unexpected hazards. High-speed impacts often lead to catastrophic injuries, making it one of the most dangerous driving behaviors on the road.
- Distracted Driving: Distractions, such as texting, talking on the phone, or adjusting in-car systems, take a driver’s attention away from the road. Even a few seconds of inattention can lead to collisions with life-changing consequences.
- Failure to Yield or Stop: Ignoring stop signs or failing to yield when required is a frequent factor in intersection accidents. Drivers must stay vigilant, especially when turning or crossing busy streets, to avoid collisions.
- Weather Conditions: Poor weather, including rain, snow, or fog, can reduce visibility and road traction. Drivers should adjust their speed and following distance accordingly to maintain control and stay safe.
