The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while crews worked on-site. Police report that the crash investigation is still open.
We would like to offer our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased victim. We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.
New York Traffic Accidents
Millions of people live in and around the state of New York and frequently travel through for pleasure or business. Unfortunately, approximately 1,000 people lose their lives yearly due to traffic collisions throughout the state. Thousands more are injured, often due to the negligent or careless actions of reckless drivers.
Most traffic accidents are not caused by the volume of traffic in the state nor the inclement weather experienced by the Northeast region. Instead, the most common cause of traffic collisions in New York has to do with human error.
Driver errors that are frequently involved in car crashes include:
- Speeding, which includes driving too fast for weather conditions and exceeding the posted speed limit. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that speeding poses numerous dangers, including reduced reaction time and increasing distance needed to come to a complete stop.
- Distraction, which can include other people inside the vehicle, cell phones, landscapes, children/pets, drinking, smoking, eating, or simply daydreaming.
- Intoxication impairs a driver’s ability to maintain a safe position on the roadway, control speed, respond quickly to emergencies, make safe driving decisions, and pay attention to road conditions, signs, and regulations.
- Failing to yield the right-of-way usually causes traffic wrecks at intersections.
- Aggressive driving is generally done by drivers attempting to avoid traffic, such as tailgating, speeding, improper lane changing, and running red lights.
