Old Bridge, NJ (November 11, 2022) – Police have apprehended two people and identified the victim who was killed by car thieves during a police pursuit in Old Bridge that led to a fatal crash on Wednesday, November 9th.
19-year-old Samuel Villar, a resident of Somerset, was burglarizing cars in Marlboro using a vehicle that was stolen last month when officers began to pursue him up Route 9 at about 2:15 a.m.
Villar crashed into another vehicle in the area of Spring Valley Road, killing 33-year-old Arturo Tlapa Luna, a resident of Freehold. Other members of Tlapa’s family who were in the car with him were all hospitalized.
Villar was charged with four counts of second-degree aggravated assault, first-degree aggravated manslaughter, employing a juvenile, and second-degree eluding.
The 17-year-old male who was with him was charged with juvenile delinquency for offenses which, if committed by an adult, would constitute joyriding, burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Arturo Tlapa Luna, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
