Syracuse, NY – Police Respond to Injury Crash on Calthrop Ave onramp to I-81 N
Syracuse, NY (February 7, 2023) – The Syracuse Police Department responded to an accident shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, that ended in injuries. An initial investigation showed that a 49-year-old man was injured in the crash.
The male victim was headed north on I-81 in his white 2009 Ford Van when his vehicle stalled in the right lane near the top of the Calthrop Avenue on-ramp. The man then exited his vehicle and went to the front of it.
Soon thereafter, his van was rear-ended by a tan 2014 Jeep. The victim was pushed into the left lane of traffic along with his vehicle. He suffered serious head trauma and was taken to Upstate Hospital in critical condition.
EMTs took the other driver to Crouse Hospital with neck pain. Police in Syracuse continues to investigate the details of the collision.
The northbound lanes of I-81 were closed from approximately 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to allow for responders to work in the area. Officers with the New York State Department of Transportation worked to steer drivers away from the scene.
The interstate was closed between Exit 17 and Brighton Avenue. Authorities are investigating the events that led to the accident.
We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.
New York Car Accidents
Each year, car crashes in New York leave thousands of people seriously injured. Regrettably, many victims face more than just physical and emotional impacts. Injured parties are often left to deal with overwhelming financial consequences due to medical bills, lost earnings, and various other expenses and losses they face. After being harmed in an accident, it is important that you explore the legal options available to help you move forward.
Following your crash, you may be able to recover compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the person who is responsible for the accident. By working with an experienced personal injury attorney, you can build a strong case that will hold the at-fault party responsible for your injuries. Your lawyer will work to negotiate a fair settlement with the at-fault party’s insurance company or take your case to trial if necessary.
In addition to helping you recover financially, filing a personal injury lawsuit can also help bring some closure after an accident. Knowing that you have taken action to hold the at-fault party accountable can be empowering and help you move on with your life.
In order to prevail, you must be able to prove that the defendant engaged in some form of negligence while operating the vehicle, and as a result of their negligence, the accident took place. This could be done by showing that the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, speeding, or engaging in another reckless action. Working with a car accident lawyer in Syracuse can help to ensure that you have the best chances of getting justice after your accident.
Your lawyer will be able to investigate your accident and gather the strongest evidence possible. Having a strong case is critical when it comes to helping you get justice following your crash.
